Benzoyl peroxide is a common acne fighting ingredient found in many over the counter preparations. When it comes to cleansers, it can be found in varying strengths - 0.5% up to 10%. The higher the concentration can make it a little more 'potent'. Benzoyl peroxide has an added benefit over salicylic acid in that it can both exfoliate as well as help fight acne causing bacteria. If your skin is not just oily with clogged pores but you are also starting to experience some pus bumps or inflamed spots, choosing a benzoyl peroxide cleanser may be a better choice if your skin can tolerate it. One note of caution with Benzoyl Peroxide cleansers : They can bleach you sheets, towels and bath mats! If this is of concern, choose a white towel and pillow cases to avoid this problem.
Of note: with cleanser versions of Benzoyl Peroxide, it can be difficult to find options under the 10% concentration.
The texture of this cleanser makes it easier to apply and use. For pre-teens it can be difficult to find cleansers with benzoyl peroxide in lower concentrations so this has been a great choice for people to try. It is available at your local store or Amazon.
This cleanser has benzoyl peroxide in a 10% concentration and can be applied easily. If you are using this on pre-teen skin, it's important to not let it sit too long on the skin to avoid excess irritation. It can help to use every other day or every third day and work your way up to daily use if needed. It is available at your local store, Target, or Amazon.
This has always been one of my top recommended acne cleansers. It has a creamy texture as it is applied and rubs easily over face, chest and back to really fight acne in all the areas that need it the most. Benzoyl peroxide is in its maximal strength at 10% in this product so it may help to ease into use for pre-teen skin starting with alternate day use. It is available at your local store, Target, or Amazon.
